FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Eric Rall, secretary@rlcca.org

The Republican Liberty Caucus is pleased to announce the endorsement of Paul Hannosh in his campaign to represent California’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Inyo County, Mono County, and northern San Bernardino County. Hannosh is a US Army veteran, a school board member, and a schoolteacher. He is running for Congress on a platform that includes fiscal discipline, tax reform, ending NSA surveillance, and freeing education from federal interference.

Paul Hannosh is challenging incumbent Republican Paul Cook, whose voting record in the state legislature received the lowest score of any Republican in the RLCCA’s Liberty Index. The RLCCA is endorsing Hannosh over Cook in order to hold our elected officials accountable and improve the quality of representation. Anthony Rice, the RLCCA’s Southern Regional Director, says “Paul Hannosh is a passionate defender of liberty and has shown a great understanding of the US Constitution as a History Teacher. His limited government mentality is exactly what Congress needs.”

Paul Hannosh says, “As a Rand Paul supporter, I am thrilled to be given the Republican Liberty Caucus national endorsement. The problems we face in America are not due to political gridlock but due to a nanny state mentality at home and abroad that seeks dragons to slay. Government doesn’t create jobs it just seeks it’s own preservation and expansion and has a parasitical effect on it’s host, the productive part of society. The ‘parasite’ of government has now grown to the point where it is endangering the health of its host and must be downsized. We now have nearly as many Americans on Welfare as working full time and we continue to spend more on Defense than the next 10 highest defense countries budgets combined. This cannot continue indefinitely. Either we address the problem now in an orderly fashion or we will be forced to address the problem in a state of chaos. I am willing to address this problem and start putting working Americans first, not our government establishment.”

The Republican Liberty Caucus urges our members to visit Paul Hannosh’s website (http://www.paulhannosh.com) and offer him your support.

RLCCA supports "Regulate Marijuana Like Wine" signature gathering

California, October 4, 2011 – The Republican Liberty Caucus of California
announced its support for signature gathering for the “Regulate Marijuana Like Wine” ballot measure. If placed on the ballot and passed by California voters in 2012, the measure will end marijuana prohibition under California law, while legalizing commercial production, as well as small-scale cultivation for personal use, and sales
to Californians 21 and older.

The measure, also known as “Measure 1490 (11-0011): Marijuana Legalization”,
has been cleared to circulate petitions in order to qualify to appear on the
ballot in 2012. To qualify, the measure must obtain 504,760 signatures by
December 19, 2011. The measure’s authors are currently collecting signature
pledges and recruiting volunteers for their petition drive, which began on November 1.

Any registered voter in California is eligible to sign or circulate a petition. We urge our members and other concerned Californians to pledge signatures, help spread the word, and consider volunteering or donating to the campaign. Signup to pledge, donate, and volunteer at regulatemarijuanalikewine.com. After Nov 1, petition forms will also be available at that website to print, sign, and mail back.

Passing this measure would be a major step forward for personal liberty.

California law would recognize that marijuana, like wine and beer, is an
agricultural product with legitimate uses which adults should be trusted to
enjoy responsibly.

Organized crime would lose its monopoly on the marijuana business.
Law enforcement resources would be freed from the burden of enforcing
prohibition and made available to protect the public from more serious
crimes.

Medical marijuana patients would enjoy improved access to their medicine.
Californians would be able to enjoy responsible recreational use without
violating state laws.

State and local government could collect hundreds of millions of dollars in
new sales tax revenue without raising tax rates.

Passing this measure would also serve as a positive example to other states,
and would increase pressure on the federal government to recognize the
rights of the people of each state to decide matters such as this for
themselves.

Please support the ballot measure volunteering today at

Dennis election to Chairman highlights RLCCA convention

SACRAMENTO, CA, March 20, 2011 – The Republican Liberty Caucus of California is pleased to announce the election of its new Chairman, John Dennis of San Francisco. Dennis sprang to national attention in 2010 during the course of his spirited campaign against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in California’s 8th congressional district. During his Congressional campaign, Dennis received the endorsement of Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Paul said Dennis was “truly committed to Liberty, personal freedom, fiscal discipline, and a more sensible foreign policy.”

“I’m honored that RLCCA members chose me for this position. The RLC represents the core values of the Republican Party, and California is one of its most prestigious chapters,” said newly elected RLCCA Chairman John Dennis.

Following Dennis’s comments, Ward Connerly, delivered the RLCCA convention keynote address. Connerly is the founder and President of the American Civil Rights Institute, a national nonprofit aimed at educating the public about the need to move beyond race. Connerly spoke of race preferences and their effect on liberty, the discrepancy between the belief in a colorblind government and the official pursuit of “diversity”, and what the role of Republicans ought to be in the preservation of liberty with regard to race.

As a member of the University of California Board of Regents from 1993-2005, Mr. Connerly was instrumental in leading Board members to end the University’s use of race as a means for admissions. Connerly spoke of his experience battling against race preferences and for equality under the law for all residents in public education, public employment, and public contracting.

Also at the convention, incumbent officers Rick Jacobs and Parke Bostrom were reelected to the respective offices of Vice-Chairman and Secretary. Former Chairman Matt Heath was elected Treasurer. Sarah Fulka of San Bernardino was appointed to an At-Large Director seat. Four new alternates were elected to the Board: Daniel DeVaney, Nick Hankoff, David Johnson and Forest Baker.

The Saturday after the RLCCA convention, the RLCCA conducted a straw poll of 2012 presidential candidates at the state Republican convention at the Sacramento Hyatt. Texas Congressman Ron Paul won the poll with 17.8% of the vote. Former governor Mitt Romney came in second with 10.9%, and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin came in third with 7.9%.
