Resolution Against Syrian Intervention

Whereas the Constitution grants Congress the exclusive power to declare war, specifically so that no one person or group can drag an entire nation into military action;

Whereas the use of military force is one of the most dire decisions placed before Congress; Whereas the Syrian civil war is a brutal conflict between a tyrannical dictator on one side and a coalition that includes Al Qaeda on the other;

Whereas there is no American national interest at stake in Syria serious enough to justify American military involvement;

Whereas any American involvement runs a very large risk of making the conflict worse and aiding our enemies, in addition to the inevitable loss of innocent life in any large-scale military operation;

The Republican Liberty Caucus of California joins the national Republican Liberty Caucus in condemning the administration’s proposed intervention in Syria and urges California’s Congressional delegation to vote against authorizing the use of military force.
